I guess I just don't get the appeal of the Hummer H2. I'd like to hear the thoughts of you Hummer fans. What is the appeal of this vehicle? It's huge, costs a fortune to drive (fuel), and does not seem to be well suited to daily use. If I lived in an area where such a powerful vehicle was necessary, I would certainly consider a Hummer. But why, if I don't live in the outback?

[I'm not trying to be snarky here. Just curious.]

I dunno about everyone but I just like it's look. And when you wanna go off-roading this is a good vehicle which I like a lot.

Do you do much off-roading?

Yeah, my friends have some jeeps and one has a hummer. We go out a lot, it is really fun.

It may just be me, but I don't see the need to get my car dirty on purpose, lol. Oh well, to each his own! Yeah, I think the Hummer is a nice vehicle if you can afford it. I don't own one personally, but I've ridden in them, and the interiors are pretty sweet.

Does your friend also drive the Hummer around for daily use? I guess that's the part I don't get. It'd be like wearing your snow boots to work on a sunny day. I only wear snow boots when I'm going out in the snow.

Well I have a HUMMER, I drove it today to work. Everyone here at the office loves it. They all want to go for a ride. When I first started to look at them before I decided to purchase one I really didnt like them. Till the day I took it for a test drive. That day was the last day I looked at them AT the dealer because it was in my driveway! The ride is like no other, I have owned Suburbans and Tahoes, They dont even compare. Everyone in town drives subs,& tahoes. They are so common. I put a set of 22" wheels. Looks great.

Yeah normally he does, it is really nice to ride in.

It's a simple magnetic draw to a powerful piece of machinery that is easy on the eyes and fun as hell :-)

It's not practical, it's excessive, it's massive, it's impressive. That's the appeal of a Hummer, it's not meant to be a practical vehical it's meant to be cool.

It's not even meant to be cool, but much, much more. It is meant to give the driver a feeling of power, to take them off the road and to let all the other off roaders know he will dominate the area.

Lets be honest, Hummer H2 looks pretty, yet huge and its cool to have. If you like something different and i love the power rides, then H2 is the way to go. Great to drive too

Does anybody know how the Hummer was introduced? Did the H2 as a civilian vehicle evolve from military or work vehicles?

I think the benefits of a Hummer are put to best "use" in those work situations, but I can also see the appeal as a recreational vehicle.

Technically, the Hummer came from the military Humvee. But yeah it would be ideal if it had more space for storage.

Yeah I have heard some complaints of not being able to keep the tailgate down because of the tire on the back. If you hauled a lot that would be a bummer but imagine there is some way to fix that.

I would comment on this answer, but this is a family site. Let's just say the word "compensation" and leave it at that ... :D

lol I thought that was just the really jacked up trucks with enormous tires that showed people were compensating.
